Our Story

Dairy farmer’s daughter meets dairy farmer, and the rest is history!

 

But really! Meet Thad and Gayle. Their people. Their cows. They are the parents of six kids, stewards of a gorgeous piece of farmland in Wirtz Virginia, and followers of Jesus.
 

Our Products

Our desire is to connect you to locally produced products, including our own!

 

We carry over thirty local producers items that are made or grown within a 60-mile radius of our farm and are thankful to have the opportunity to support and promote those products.

 

We believe in redefining the word "local" so that you are spending your money here in Franklin County!

Our Practices

We take soil health seriously here! It's the "root" (pun intended) of what we do to ensure that we have healthy crops, animals, and people.

 

Our perennial grass-based system feeds our cattle and chickens on a rotational cycle.

    We had The Best Dinner ever tonight. Sarah made us Smoke In Chimneys Rainbow Trout that we got from Melvin’s Farm To Fork Store. Cooked in the oven with lemon, salt & pepper, garlic, and a splash of olive oil. What we didn't eat straight off the bones, we used to make Fish Bowls with cabbage slaw, rice, avocado, corn, sriracha mayo, red onion. Oh. My Word. So stinkin' good.

    The Smoke in Chimneys rainbow trout was excellent. We fixed it 3 different ways… lightly seasoned pan fried, pan fried with butter and capers, and grilled in foil packet with fresh herbs. Delicious.

    We tried the trout last night at a friends house. It is superb in flavor. The trout farm did it right in raising the trout and what they fed them. 10 times better than what is stocked in our streams. Thanks for having these available for them to purchase and us help enjoy!

    Short ribs & spare ribs from Melvin’s Farm To Fork Store on the smoker today for dinner with the young Hodges family. Calvin added a braising bath to the short ribs of homemade canned concentrated beef broth & a pork demi glacé, red wine, the spice rub & Worcestershire sauce. He glazed the spare ribs in butter & maple syrup, both from Melvin’s. Smells good up in here!

    We used the sausage we bought from Melvin’s Farm to Fork Store this morning and OMG. It was delicious and little to no fat. I never thought there would be such a difference between store bought and local meat, but boy was I wrong. Go see Gayle at Melvin’s Farm to Fork Store. You will not be disappointed.
